All eyes are on the historic win of President-elect Barack Obama, and pet lovers everywhere are panting over his promise to his two daughters … the promise of a new puppy! Having pets at the White House is a longstanding tradition for many reasons.
Dogs provide a sense of humor, a sense of normalcy and a reminder that no matter what kinds of pressures you have at your job, a few minutes of play a day keeps the sadness away. They are also great PR value — The President, when posing with their dog, shows a loving, caring quality and sends the message that Americans love their pets.
